Queen Udie Jacinta, Obudu Face of Culture – 2010

The winner of the inaugural edition of Obudu Face of Culture Pageant, Queen Udie Jacinta has said her deepest desire for the event is to see that the forth coming 2015 edition will be more eventful and colorful than the one that produced her as winner in 2010.

In this exclusive interview with CrossRiverWatch she disclosed that, “As a Queen, you are expected to live an exemplary life as many look up to you as a role model. While some people want to know about your achievements as a Queen, only a few care about your challenges.”

Commending the organizers of the Obudu Face of Culture Pageant, Mountain Cinemas Nigeria, she advised prospective Queens for the 2015 contest to have set goals because that is an avenue to serve not to make you popular.” she added.

Udie further revealed that, being the Obudu Face of Culture Queen exposed her to so many things. “I met a lot of people and learnt a lot. I had a pet project which was fighting teenage pregnancy and the awareness of HIV/AIDS in my community. It was the first of its kind. I also embarked on quite a lot of publicity campaigns on several issues for the crown and the community.

“I met the likes of Alex Osifo, Cynthia Okereke, Zack Orji and many others in a bid to better the crown. The organizers, Kenneth and Frank are trying; sometimes they go as far as even committing personal funds to it, I believe it will be bigger and better this year.”

Jacinta reiterated that beauty pageants are not for prostitution as some people opine but that they rather help expose young women to realities and teach them more about life especially the winners.

“Though some people may not know what it means to be a Queen, personally it means showing example to people and not indulging in acts that are not right.”

In addition, she cautioned that: “The challenge of people especially men hovering around you because of your position will be there. Personally, it was not easy handling the issue of men, but I was able to overcome it.

“It is really a challenge and forms part of the reason I could not complete my pet project as intended, some people call you to a hotel room after submitting your proposal.”

The former Obudu Face of Culture concluded by saying all challenges should be a source of strength to show you are a role model, a true Queen and not a prostitute as been peddled in some quarters.
