Just as the AIG was declaring war on armed robbers in Calabar, a
group of armed robbers numbering about 18 on Thursday caused pandemonium
at the NNPC deport behind the Nigerian Police Force Zone 6, Esukutan
Calabar between 10:30pm and 11:30pm where they robbed and killed three
men, leaving two seriously injured.
According to a victim who spoke to CrossRiverWatch the gang members lootted properties worth hundreds of thousands of naira.
Mallam Musa Mai Kanti, a shop own recounts, “I was attending to my
customers when we heard series of gun shots, before we could know a gang
of over eighteen people, boys and girls rush into my shop and pointed a
gun at me and asked us to lay down and bring out our money, hand sets
and other valuables which we gave. They then moved to my neighbor and
shot three of them dead, they entered a handset shop and collected all
the hand sets in that shop and shot two persons that are seriously
injured”.
He added that the robbers left without any security agency intervening the incident.
When asked if anyone contacted the police or any other security
agency, he angrily replied, “People ran in that night to Zone 6 and
reported but not even a single policeman came until the gang left,
police came about 40 minutes afterwards”.
As at the time of filling this report all efforts made to confirm the
incident from the police proved abortive and the dead victims have been
buried.
